Plasma Pistol (Lost In Space)

Alright now here's a sci-fi weapon seen in a movie that many people wish to forget they saw. This is the plasma pistol used by the crew of the Jupiter 2 from the 1998 film "Lost in Space". Now to be honest there are many people who hate this movie, frankly I have some respect for it and that's not because of it's story or characters. I'm actually more into the technology used by the characters in the movie. This is the standard issued sidearm used by the crew of the Jupiter 2. It fires an orange bolt of plasma which can cause a significant amount of damage to anything it hits. It is unknown though if the weapon has a power setting but in the film, Maj. Don West (Matt LeBlanc) fired his at a space spider when they first appeared, The armor of the spider seemed to cause the bolt to richochet right off and hit the ceiling. Another bit of evidence that supports my theory is that Dr. Judy Robinson (Heather Graham) fired hers at several spiders to keep West from getting himself eaten. The weapon seemed to cause several spiders damage and knock them back.

Now behind the scenes, there were apparently two guns, one seen with a larger nozzle like the one you see here and another with a much smaller nozzle and rhombic prism shaped part connected to the trigger guard. Now I am sort of skeptical on this myself, I'm thinking it's either a major movie mistake or that the crew of the ship was issued two types of plasma pistol. I'm bring up this because most of the movie, this type is scene, however Major West carries one with a smaller muzzle. So I'm kind of in between on this one. Another fact about this type is that it's actually a stunt prop used by the cast on set for the more intense action scenes.
